Field notes

The October sea voyage along the cliffs

We gathered wild sea-fennel along the cliffside while the tide turned, pressing the salted leaves between linen pages. Certain memories resist chronology; they linger instead as fragrances of crushed pine and damp rain on stone.

Inscribed by candlelight in the upper chamber, watching the mist settle over the harbour. The silence here belongs entirely to the afternoon, untroubled by the ticking of modern clocks or distant bells.

Specimen notes

The arrival of winter frost upon the oak desk

As the first frost touches the courtyard glass, the ink dries slower upon the page. We turned the heavy calfskin binding to record the migration of fieldfares and the sudden silence of the garden.

Codex maxim

Certain memories resist the modern calendar, lingering instead as quiet wonders.
